I don't have a "vision" but here is  - MY VIEW OF OUR CHURCH:

Johannesburg North is a big-city church, functioning in a multi-cultural society which is made up of diverse people – from the poor, homeless and unemployed to the rich in their luxurious palaces; from the uneducated and illiterate to the degreed intellectual; from the lonely, rejected outcast to those cocooned in love and acceptance. Each of these individuals is loved by God and called into the church by Him, each has something to offer and much to gain from belonging to God’s church.

I see our “calling” as threefold.

1. To provide a safe family where each of these people can find a place of belonging, of love and acceptance. Where each can grow at his own pace, can bring his unique talents and gifts before his God as an offering, without shame, and where his needs are met by his family members.

2. To reach out to the community around us - each in our own way. Whether by preaching a mighty sermon, by hugging a lonely soul, by giving money to a struggling wayfarer or by studying the good news with a searching mind. We are all called to serve our fellows and show them a glimpse of God’s love, but not all in the same way. Our job is not to convert but to be one step in their spiritual journey.

3. Each of us is called to acknowledge and worship God. Each of us sees Him in a different way – as a Father who loves and provides for us; as a Shepherd who comes looking for us; as a Healer who touches our broken lives. As we get to know Him better our picture of God changes and becomes more complete and we worship Him anew for each new revelation of His amazing grace.

It is arrogant to think that our place in the family is more important than that of any other member; that our way of displaying God’s kindness is the ‘right’ way; that our way of worshipping is the only way acceptable to God or that our view of God is the only way he reveals Himself. Each of us is a tiny thread in the fabric of God’s church and we are honoured to be part of it.
