Youth - Youth News

Youth was at the Hooks’ house. We watched a Brazilian-made movie called ‘The Final Battle’ which had dubbed English over it to fit with the actors’ mouths.

It was about a hypothetical time in the Earth’s future when prophecies are fulfilled and the world’s authorities begin to enforce the work-on-a-Saturday rule and punish Sabbath observers.
It focuses on a group of youngish Seventh-Day Adventist people who now have to decide whether to stand up for their beliefs and refuse to work on a Saturday, or give in to the law. Some of them run to a hideout while others get tortured in jail. Eventually, after various court scenes where some people are prosecuted for not abiding by the law and others are hunted down after it being made legal to kill Sabbath observers, the end of the world comes with many natural catastrophes all at the same time, such as earthquakes, tsunamis, fires and fierce storms.

I enjoyed the next part the most as pretty music played while the sky lighted up and God, surrounded by trumpet-blowing angels in white robes descended and the mother who lost her baby had him returned to her. Amid joyful reunions and celebrations, the righteous rose from their graves and they all went up to heaven.
Despite some dodgy aspects to the story line and various beliefs displayed by the characters that not everyone agreed with, I did in fact get something from it. The movie showed quite explicitly how terrible the end times will be for those wanting to follow God, but it also showed how awesome it will be for those who did stand up for their beliefs when Jesus comes. If an amateur-made movie could depict the second coming in such a way as to make the suffering seem worth it, then imagine what it will really be like.
The other lesson was that whatever we get exposed to which deals with individuals’ beliefs, we must do our own studying to make 100% sure of what is true for ourselves.

Thanks Melissa for your careful review of the film. As you write so well I think that you should write something for the next keeping in touch.
